Food is absolutely amazing. The fish is extremely high quality and tasty. I could not recommend this place more; definitely a great Japanese restaurant. The atmosphere is the weak link in the restaurant since everything else is so great. There are some cheaper options with specials, such as a lunch meal, but also more expensive options you can order. It does get quite busy so get there easy!
Nice Japanese sushi restaurant that serves movie-inspired special maki. Would recommend trying Spider Woman, which has soft shell crab. For appetizers, consider getting the agedashi, which is deep fried tofu with light broth. If you are hungry, would recommend getting one of the rice bowl dishes (donburi), but this is only available from 5-7pm. The tori katsudon is really nice and filling. A plated version is also available, but minus the egg.
Generally good experience, everything fresh, a solid 4 for this casual place with its plastic-coated veneered tables.
The Soba salad was a little heavy on the sesame dressing, somewhat overwhelming.
The chirashi bowl was very good.
Some of the best sushi I have had in a very long time. Affordable for what they give you and so fresh. They were incredibly accommodating of my dietary restrictions and have a gluten free miso soup that is so good !! Cannot recommend this place enough. Will definitely be back soon.
portions are huge but by no mean they’re good. mediocre food at best. the only dish we enjoy was the fried tofu and it’s a steep downhill from there. Sashimi tasted loose and not fresh. The spicy karage has a thin coated layer with no flavors at all (considering they didn’t provide any dipping sauce on the side as well.) The shrimp shumai came from the freezer and tasted like a bland dough. not sure how it’s called shrimp shumai when u can barely taste/find shrimp in it. (and yes, any stores in chinatown can do better.)
Most importantly, the staffs were unfriendly for no reason. I asked for a cup of water for myself after i finished my drink. My friend was not aware of my request and later asked for a cup of hot water for himself when he finished his two drinks. The waitress literally YELLED at him saying “say ur request altogether not one by one” and left without ever coming back. It was the only two time we asked for water and there’s no reason to be aggressive at all. All of our requests were made politely with smile and courtesy and did not deserve to be scolded at. It was the most horrible dining experience I’ve had, and definitely the worst for my friend as well since it’s his first time in nyc.
I’ve lived in the city for over 20 years and this is one of my favorite places to date. The food is amazing, always fresh, and the service is great. Although not inexpensive, it’s still a great value for the quality.
Dropped in just for a quick bite of sushi and was not disappointed! I had just the Ocean 13 and definitely one of the best Sushi's I've had.
Great mix of flavor and texture between the fish, rice, and the slightly crunchy, sweet flakes and roe.
It let me speechless!!! Such a nice and unexpected experience. My friend and I were looking for something fresh and light, I would say that Takahachi succeed expectations. Their food is something that you got to try, the chef makes sure to keep you guessing what's coming next, like Chilean sea bass gyōza? Come on guys. Dani, my server gave me the best experience I could ever asked for, gave me good suggestions having in mind my dietary restrictions. I hope to come back to enjoy your service again. Thank you for having us.
